Staying in Shape During the Holidays

‘Tis the holiday season! Is there any time of year when it’s more challenging to stay in shape? First, there’s Halloween and the endless amount of leftover candy that comes with it. Then you’ve got pumpkin treats and potlucks galore at the office. Topping that off is turkey and trimmings and pie in November, then ham and cookies (and more pie) in December. For three solid months, it seems like you’re eating nothing but carbs and sugary temptations. And while it might be easy to just surrender to the goodies and get through the holidays in baggy sweats, you don’t have to do that. Believe it or not, you can keep yourself in shape during the holidays by following Domain WeHo Apartment’s five tips for health and wellness at any time of the year.
Everything in moderation
Depriving yourself will only drive you to madness, or worse – binging! It’s okay to have one cookie, but it’s less okay to eat an entire sleeve (don’t worry, we’ve all been there). As long as you space out how often you indulge your cravings and the amount you take in, you can have your slice of cake without feeling guilty about it.
Team workouts and classes
Besides all the great gatherings, food, and fun the holidays bring, a great perk of living within the Best Apartments in West Hollywood is the state-of-the-art fitness center and available fitness classes. From yoga and sculpt barre to circuit training and bootcamps, there are plenty of opportunities to shake up your normal workout routine, and meet new people while you’re at it.
Family fun
With the holidays here, your family will probably start to trickle into town little by little. A great way to bond with your loved ones is with some friendly competition while working up a sweat. Head over to nearby Plummer Park and kick the soccer ball around or bring a baseball or football to play catch. Hold a contest between your siblings and cousins to see who can do the most sit ups, push ups, or pull ups on the monkey bars. The nice part about this type of exercise is that you can trick your brain into believing it’s not really working out, just a family having fun at the park.
Fun 5ks and happy hiking
In sunny Southern California, it’s always a great day to run in a festive 5K like a turkey trot or ugly sweater run. Or you can try hiking a few local trails with friends – we recommend Runyon Canyon Park. Yes, you will be a bit chilly, but at least you’ll be burning those calories so those pounds won’t be as noticeable. Happy trailing!
